Kevin Durant has lit up New York City with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to become the first player since Michael Jordan to score at least 25 points in his team's first 12 NBA games of the season.

The Brooklyn Nets routed the Knicks for the eighth straight time, winning 112-85 at Barclays Center on Wednesday night after making Jacque Vaughn their head coach.

Durant beat the Knicks for the 13th straight time. His rebounds and assists were both season highs, and his usual scoring extended a streak that is the longest since Jordan opened the 1988-89 season with 16 consecutive games of 25 points.

"We don't want this to be a honeymoon stage for us," Durant said.

"We want to continue to keep pushing through, keep finding ways to get better, finding ways to turn those weaknesses to strengths and keep pushing from here."

Durant shot 10-for-19 from the floor in recording his 17th career triple-double and fifth since becoming a Net, while Seth Curry added a season-high 23 points.

Ben Simmons had six points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in his 24 minutes on court while fellow Australian Patty Mills missed all three of his field goal attempts for Brooklyn.

Compatriot Josh Giddey went close to a triple-double of his own (18 points, 15 rebounds, six assists) in Oklahoma City as the Thunder were pipped 136-132 by Milwaukee after two overtime periods.

The Eastern Conference-leading Bucks (10-1), minus Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), were led by Jevon Carter's 36 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (39 points) top-scored for OKC.

In the battle between the Los Angeles teams, LeBron James had 30 points, eight rebounds and five assists before leaving the court with pain in his left leg late in the Lakers' 114-101 loss to the Clippers.

"I feel good, besides the injury," James said.

"We'll get pictures on it tomorrow and go from there. Didn't do anything strenuous on the play. When I landed, I felt a little spasm or strain in my groin. Immediately I asked to come out on the next play down."

Paul George scored 29 points as the Clippers scored their ninth consecutive win over the Lakers, who fell to 2-9 for the season.

In Boston, Jayson Tatum had 31 points and five assists and the Celtics beat the Detroit Pistons 128-112 to earn their fourth straight victory.

Denver and Portland also improved to 8-3, with the Nuggets beating the Indiana Pacers 122-119 and the Trail Blazers 105-95 victors at the Charlotte Hornets.

The Utah Jazz lead the Western Conference at 10-3 thanks to a 125-119 triumph over the Hawks in Atlanta.

The struggling Orlando Magic held Luka Doncic under 30 points for the first time this season in a 94-87 win over the Dallas Mavericks, while there were also wins for the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls.
