Matthew Dellavedova has shown he is still a man of NBA influence, helping spark Sacramento's comeback win in the first genuine opportunity of his second-coming.

The Boomers favourite and key piece of Cleveland's 2016 NBA title success was instrumental as the Kings came from 15 points behind at halftime to beat the Hornets 115-108.

A first-quarter knee injury to starting guard De'Aaron Fox opened the door for Dellavedova, who won one of the Kings' final roster spots after spending last season in the NBL with Melbourne.

The point guard played eight minutes on Monday (Tuesday AEDT) after seeing just one minute of court time in the previous five games; his opening shot a three-pointer that gave the Kings their first lead.

He added three assists and some stiff defence, with the Kings 10 points better off with the Australian on the court as they notched a second-straight win after four losses to begin the season.

The 32-year-old also returned to defend a two-point lead in the final moments and forced a turnover when time expired on the Hornets' in-bound pass.

Davion Mitchell (23 points) hit five-of-six threes while Kevin Huerter scored 26 points and Domantas Sabonis managed 16 rebounds for the victors.

PJ Washington had 28 points for Charlotte (3-4), who had beaten defending champions Golden State in their previous clash.

In Brooklyn, Ben Simmons sat in casual wear on the bench during his side's 116-109 defeat of Indiana that improved them to 2-5.

The heavily scrutinised Australian, who missed all of last season with back and mental health issues, was ruled out with knee soreness but could return as soon as Wednesday to face Chicago.

The Nets led by 24 but scores were level late in the final quarter, Kevin Durant (36 points, nine rebounds, seven assists) and Kyrie Irving (28 points) holding their nerve.

Tokyo Boomers bronze medallist Matisse Thybulle (five rebounds, two steals in 16 minutes) again locked in defensively as Philadelphia beat Washington 118-111 without Joel Embiid to improve to 4-4.

James Harden, traded to Philadelphia for Simmons last season, scored 23 points and added seven rebounds with a staggering 17 assists for the 76ers.
