Essendon have finished an impressive debut season on a high after running away from Port Adelaide as the rain cleared in the second half to secure a 27-point triumph.

The Bombers' fourth victory of the season locks them into tenth place and the highest finish of the four expansion clubs that joined the AFLW for season seven.

Goals were hard to come by in wet and wild conditions in the first half but the Bombers took control once the sun appeared to set up a 5.7 (37) 1.4 (10) win at Alberton Oval on Sunday.

Bombers forward Daria Bannister was one of few players who looked comfortable in all conditions, and slotted a clever banana kick during the slippery second term for a late goal of the year contender.

The crafty forward added another major under the sun in the final term to stretch the lead to a comfortable five goals and all but ensure the result.

"I absolutely winged that one," Bannister told Fox Sports about  her first goal.

"I just tried to chuck it on the boot and obviously I got lucky with that."

Madison Prespakis completed a superb season with another standout performance as the Bombers' prized recruit gathered a game-high 24 disposals along with seven tackles.

Georgia Gee (14) and Jacqui Vogt (13) were also integral to the win, while 18-year-old Ashleigh Van Loon battled hard against the Power's star veteran Erin Phillips.

The Bombers' win could come at a cost, though, after fifth-gamer Lily-Rose Williamson tumbled to ground and landed heavily on her head with less than two minutes remaining.

The Power (1-8-1) matched the Bombers as the rain fell in the first half, and only trailed 24-22 for inside 50s across the game, but lacked the firepower to make the most of their efforts on the scoreboard.

Phillips collected 20 disposals but was unable to have her usual impact near goal, while Jacqui Yorston (22) and Abbey Dowrick (21) were also prominent for the Power.

The Power's vice-captain Ange Foley showed her class even in the tricky conditions early, and finished with 12 disposals in her 50th match.

"At the highest level, reward comes in wins and losses," Power coach Lauren Arnell said.

"What we're really clear on is that we're on a path far greater than what we've been able to put out this season, and we feel quite bullish about what's ahead of us."
