Whether as player, cheerleader, assistant captain or just their "team mum", Australia's Billie Jean King Cup finalists are imploring Sam Stosur to remain a part of another push to beat the world.

The 2-0 defeat by Switzerland in the final in Glasgow meant the 38-year-old didn't get her chance to make a potential playing farewell to the world women's team championship that she's graced for half a lifetime.

She had been lined up to play in the doubles if a deciding rubber was needed but following singles defeats for Storm Sanders and Ajla Tomljanovic, that match wasn't needed with Stosur left reflecting on her second loss in the final in three years.

And she doesn't know if there'll be another chance.

Asked about her future in the competition, the former US Open champ, who made her BJK Cup debut in 2003 when the competition was still known as the Federation Cup, smiled: "I'd love to be part of it forever, but, yeah, that's probably not possible.

After collecting her runner's-up medal from the great Billie Jean herself, Stosur added: "I will enjoy this moment, and if this is the last one, then that's a proud moment."

Never rule out Stosur, though. She played two high-pressure doubles with Sanders in Glasgow, and won them both, improving her remarkable record in the BJK Cup to 39 match wins from 35 ties.

"We are very proud of ourselves, again reaching the final twice in three years. You know, there is so much upside still to this team; we've got a pretty young team - besides me!

"These guys will be around for a long time to come. Absolutely so proud of them, we give it our heart and soul every single time we step out on court. That's all you can ask for.

"Finalist is great - but, yeah, we want one more."

Asked if she wanted to be involved in the team in the future even in a non-playing capacity, Stosur, flanked by her admiring teammates, had barely had to time to respond before singles No.1 Ajla Tomljanovic cried 'yes!' and Ellen Perez should 'team mum!'.

The ever-popular Stosur simply told them all: "Yes - but I'm happy just to come and cheer."
