The Morrison government is bolstering Australia's clean hydrogen export industry with a new programme to encourage foreign investment into hydrogen supply chains that originate in the country.
The $150 million Australian Clean Hydrogen Trade Program (ACHTP) would fund hydrogen supply chain initiatives in Australia that attract foreign public or private investment.
Australia is targeting the first round of funding to export clean hydrogen to Japan under the Japan-Australia Partnership on Decarbonisation through Technology, signed by the two governments in June 2021. ACHTP will support various projects to develop the country’s export supply chain and commercialise clean hydrogen production to derive pure hydrogen-like clean ammonia.
