MACAU, Jan. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- In yet another move to invest in the future of Chinese wines and showcase them on a global stage, Wynn is hosting the first-ever Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards from March 1 – 5, 2024 at Wynn Palace, with the results to be announced on April 13, 2024.  Wynn's forward-thinking vision has led to the creation of this new wine awards platform that celebrates the excellence of Chinese fine wines alongside the hospitality company's world-class service standards. Chinese wines have recently made their way onto the global stage due to the continued efforts and investments made by winery owners and governing bodies, yielding significant improvements in viticultural practices and wine quality. Through the inaugural awards event in March 2024, Wynn's goal is to present the very best of Chinese wines and continue elevating Macau's status as a UNESCO-designated "Creative City of Gastronomy."

As a world-class hospitality company renowned for its forward-looking vision and award-winning dining experiences, Wynn has collaborated with prestigious wineries from around the world to host wine events and masterclasses for many years in Macau. Today, Wynn is pleased to introduce this important new wine awards event to commend Chinese wines of superior quality and showcase the excellence of Wynn's service standards on a global level. The world's foremost authorities and judges in Old and New World wines from around the world will partner with Chinese experts to unearth the greatest wines of modern China. The judges for the competition will be led by Chairman Eddie McDougall and three highly accredited Master of Wines as vice-chairs: Fongyee Walker MW, Gus Zhu MW and Andrew Caillard MW. The star-studded line-up of judges will also include the likes of Jane Anson (Bordeaux Insider); Iain Riggs (Order of Australia Recipient); Ronny Lau (Chairman, Greater China Wine Critics Association); Kenichi Ohashi MW; Julien Boulard MW; Reeze Choi (World No. 3 Sommelier); Madeleine Strenweth MW; Jeremy Stockman (MD, Watson's Wine); Yohann Jousselin MS, Xiao Pi (China's leading Wine KOL) and many more.

Wineries entering the competition will compete for the Wynn Signature Best Wine of China Trophy and 27 more category trophies which champion the excellence of major varietal expressions and regionality. The judging process will be conducted blind, under the international 100-point system whereby medals will be allocated to wines based on a tiered scoring system. To protect the Awards integrity, Wynn will appoint an external auditor to conduct random background inspections of wineries who submit their wines whilst also qualifying the accuracy of the judges' scores.

Award-winning wines will not only receive the prestigious "Wynn Signature Award" label, recognized as an authoritative recommendation for global wine enthusiasts, but will also be invited to showcase at national masterclasses, industry and consumer tastings, media tastings, and major banquets. They may also be featured in Wynn's international showcases, elevating their brand reputation even further on the global stage.

Macau, renowned for its unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures, is the perfect setting for international wine enthusiasts to experience the distinctive regional aspects and character of Chinese fine wines. As an independent hotel brand and recipient of the most Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Awards in the world, Wynn will ensure the competition adopts an authoritative and professional Chinese wine evaluation system, establishing an unparalleled international exchange event for participating wines. The aim is to elevate the global recognition of Chinese wines and enhance the understanding and appreciation of Chinese wines worldwide through Wynn's rigorous commitment to quality and taste. The awards event will also strengthen partnerships with China's top wineries to promote fine wines and expand the international market, while driving the development and innovation of the Chinese wine industry.
