Dominic Perrottet, the newly elected premier of New South Wales, has committed to keeping people safe while opening up the economy, and securing recovery.

The state government has decided to unlock the state on 11 October 2021, after having achieved the double vaccination target of 70%. As part of the NSW government plans, the premier has introduced major changes in the roadmap out of the COVID-induced lockdown prioritising economic recovery.

Flag changes in the roadmap for reopening NSW

The alterations have been perpetrated in the roadmap out of lockdown with the prime objective of sharpening emphasis on supporting the state’s economic recovery.

The government has involved a team of economic experts to lend regular advice and suggestions to have a well-defined roadmap for economic growth.

Schools reopen with safety measures

  • Face-to-face learning will resume at schools with department preschool, kindergarten, year 1 starting from 18 October and other year groups from 25 October.
  • Wedding ceremonies will be organised with density limit for up to 100 people (5-person limit for people who are not fully vaccinated).
  • Theme parks, racecourses, stadiums, and other recreation facilities will operate with density limits for up to 5,000 people.
  • Entertainment facilities, such as cinemas and theatres, will reopen with more than the density limit or 75% fixed seated capacity.
  • Ticketed and seated outdoor public gatherings will be allowed for up to 500 people with density limit.
  • Up to 10 fully vaccinated singers may perform in places of worship and at religious services.

Role of vaccination in reinstating normalcy

To bring about economic recovery in the state, it becomes essential to execute safe and planned reopening of New South Wales.

The rising percentage of vaccinated population is one of the significant aspects that reflects positive prospects for suspension of movement restrictions while keeping people safe.

As of 6 October 2021, more than 89% of people aged 16 and over have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while 69% of the population has got both doses in the state.

Meanwhile, the state government as well as people will have to ensure that vaccination numbers go up as NSW comes out of lockdown.
