ASX Close: Bull run lifts index near 11-month high

The share market closed within touching distance of an 11-month high as US futures signalled optimism ahead of a week of risk events.

The S&P/ASX 200 rallied 80 points or 1.2 per cent, finishing just 15 points below this year's closing peak of 6758. The market has been stuck in a holding pattern over the festive season, trading in a range between 6600 and around 6760. Technical analysis suggests a breakout above 6760 would open the door to further gains.
