The interest around the ongoing Test series against India bears testimony to cricket’s popularity in Australia. No wonder, Australians adore their cricketers, who are also some of the country’s wealthiest sportspersons. 

Their wealth is usually measured in millions of dollars. They are widely known for owning several mansions across the state capitals in Australia.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith, 31, is currently one of the best batsmen in the world.

Mr Smith started his career as a bowler but switched to batting. He made his domestic debut in 2008, playing for New South Wales. Since then, Mr Smith has accomplished several high achievements for his sporting excellence. He became the team’s captain in the 2014-15 series against India.

His career as a captain finished in 2018 when Mr Smith got stripped of his position due to a controversy in Cape Town. The cricketer was not allowed to play for a full year afterwards.

However, Mr Smith came back in 2019, showing his brilliant game as the right-handed batsman. Despite his ups and downs throughout the cricket career, Mr Smith earnt his fame and a vast fortune through multimillion-dollar contracts.

Experts estimate that Mr Smith holds a A$15 million fortune in property investments alone. It is reported that the former captain has at least nine investment properties, including a four-bedroom Vaucluse mansion worth A$6.6 million.

Together with his wife Dani, Mr Smith is renovating the Vaucluse home, which has a private pool, sauna, gym, and a wine cellar as the luxurious amenities. The home has an astounding view of the Sydney Harbour.

Mr Smith centred his properties around the Balmain peninsula in Sydney, NSW.

Some of his properties include a three-level mansion purchased for A$1.41 million in 2016, another house bought for A$1.95 million in 2017, a Balmain home purchased for A$2 million, which has been rented out for A$2,000 a week.

Tim Paine

Tasmania-born Tim Paine is playing as a wicketkeeper for the Australian cricket team.

Mr Paine joined the cricket world at the age of 16 when he started playing for his place of birth, Tasmania. Shortly after that, Mr Paine proved to be a fine cricketer.

He started his One Day Internationals career against Scotland in 2009. Just a month later, Mr Paine scored 111 against England.

Mr Paine’s career peak suddenly came to a halt due to a severe finger injury. He needed to undergo five surgeries to restart his career. After missing out on two seasons, Mr Paine returned to cricket in full glory with playing for the local Tasmanian team.

Currently, Mr Paine is one of the Australian captains for the national team, replacing Mr Smith after the incident in Cape Town.

In contrast to Mr Smith, Mr Paine bought his family home in a quiet area, far away from the city rush. Together with his wife and two small children, Mr Paine lives in South Hobart, Tasmania.

His family home has a rustic vibe from the outside but is contemporarily decorated on the inside. The home is surrounded by lots of green plants.

In 2018, Mr Paine sold his home in Sandy Bay for A$1.5 million, making a A$250,000 profit. The Paines also own properties in North Hobart and Spring Beach.

David Warner

Left-hand batsman David Warner owns several homes around Maroubra, one of the most famous beaches in NSW.

Mr Warner became famous after he represented the country without having played a single first-class match, thus becoming the first Australian cricketer to do so.

Incidents and controversies also followed Mr Warner, which prevented him from playing for 12 months during 2013-14.

Mr Warner got another ban after being involved in the same scandal as Mr Smith in Cape Town, but still finished the World Cup in 2019 as the second-highest scorer.

Together with his wife Cindy, Mr Warner owns around A$10 million in investment properties.

In 2015, the couple built an apartment complex for a whopping A$3.9 million. It is also building a new home, facing Lurline Bay.

In 2017, the Warner family sold their Coogee property for A$7.05 million, making a profit of a nearly A$1 million.

While the pair waits for the new Maroubra house, it is currently living in a four-bedroom home, also located in Maroubra, worth A$2.33 million. They are also renting one of their units for A$680 a week.

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins started his cricket career at the age of 17. He became the youngest Australian player to sign a central contract with Cricket Australia.

Currently, Mr Cummins is a right-arm fast bowler for the Aussie team.

Mr Cummins resides in Clovelly, one of the luxurious Eastern suburbs in Sydney. He owns an apartment near the beach, which he purchased in 2013 for A$1.36 million.

Mr Cummins also owns a property in Moss Vale, which is currently rented out for A$550 a week.
