Westport Fuel Systems (TSX:WPRT) recently announced that Carlos Gonzalez will assume the role of President and CEO for Cespira, a High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) joint venture with Volvo Group. The appointment is set to take effect on April 1, 2025, marking a new chapter for the joint venture. Gonzalez will succeed Dan Sceli, who has served as the interim CEO since the formation of Cespira in mid-2024. Sceli will continue to contribute to Cespira's strategic direction by remaining on its board.
Carlos Gonzalez's Industry Experience
Gonzalez brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having accumulated over 24 years in the automotive and commercial vehicle industries. Most recently, he was Vice President and Global Key Account Executive at ZF Group, where he worked extensively with TRATON Group. His background includes senior leadership positions at well-known companies such as General Dynamics ELS, Continental AG, and Lear.
His extensive track record in the commercial vehicle sector and his role in managing key accounts with leading global automotive players will play a critical role in guiding Cespira through its next phase of development. Gonzalez’s experience is especially valuable as the industry increasingly focuses on sustainable and alternative fuel solutions, areas in which Cespira's HPDI technology plays a pivotal role.

Gonzalez's educational qualifications complement his professional experience. He holds engineering degrees from Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Universidad Europea de Madrid, both of which have provided him with a solid foundation in technical and operational aspects of the automotive sector. Additionally, his executive training at institutions such as Duke University, INSEAD Business School, and IESE Business School has further honed his leadership capabilities and strategic decision-making skills.
These credentials, combined with his extensive industry experience, position Gonzalez as a key figure to drive Cespira's growth and success. His leadership will be essential as the joint venture works to advance HPDI technologies and align its offerings with the evolving needs of the global transportation market.
Role of Dan Sceli Moving Forward
Dan Sceli, who served as interim CEO during Cespira’s initial formation, will transition to a new role on the joint venture’s board of directors. Sceli's continued involvement ensures that the strategic direction of Cespira will remain aligned with the long-term objectives set during its early stages. His experience with the company's formation and his leadership will provide valuable guidance as Gonzalez takes on his new responsibilities.
