TSX Slips On Global Cues, Ballard Power & Interfor Top Movers

Broader Canadian indices slipped in the red on cues from the US markets. All three global benchmark equity gauges traded in negative zone. The S&P 500 recorded the highest weakness, down ~0.32% to 3,958.55, followed by Dow Jones that declined 0.31% to 33,066.96 and the Nasdaq Composite Index traded 0.11% lower at 13,045.39, respectively.

Leading Canadian equity gauge, the S&P/TSX Composite Index, slipped slightly lower by 0.07% or ~14 points to 18,705.56, respectively. Other broader indices of the Toronto Stock Exchange also settled in red, with S&P/TSX 60 traded 0.09% lower and TSX Venture index gave up ~0.72% to 929.07.

A total 124 TSX Composite constituent stocks traded in green and 106 settled in red zone, implying that bulls are still heavy over bears.

Smallcaps were the biggest losers on Tuesday, with benchmark S&P/TSX SmallCap trading 0.34% lower to 709.81, respectively.

Total traded volume on TSX was 200.14 million on Tuesday.

Volume Leaders: Bank of Nova Scotia (12.04 mn), TC Energy Corporation (8.80 mn) and Bombardier Inc. (8.25 mn), respectively.

 

Commodity, Bond and Currency Update

WTI Crude Oil Future down by 1.64% to US$ 60.55/bbl on Tuesday while the International benchmark Brent Oil contracted by 1.29% to US$ 64.14/bbl. Gold Futures prices down by 1.65% to US$ 1,683.90.

US 10-Year Treasury Bond yield was down by 0.41% to 1.71% while the Canada 10-Yr Government Bond Yield went down by 0.07% to 1.53%. 

The USD/CAD up 0.37% to 1.26 on Tuesday. The US Dollar Index moved 0.39% higher on Tuesday against the basket of majors at 93.321.
