WTO backs Canada in long-running lumber dispute with US

  • A three-person panel backed Canada’s complaint against Washington over duties imposed on Canadian softwood lumber exports.
  • The complaint claimed Washington did not reveal all the prices paid by Canadian firms and later miscalculated Canada’s subsidizes for timber companies and imposed high tariffs, says the WTO ruling.
  • US Trade Representative called the ruling ‘erroneous’ while Trump launched an attack on the WTO.
