The beginning and the rise of Airbnbs

People may assume that Airbnb is a new company. However, the staycation rental company was established in 2008. With the advancement and wider internet reach, access to Airbnbs has become easier. However, before the pandemic, the platform was never in the global limelight. As the pandemic hit, Airbnb got a major kick-start.

Another significant characteristic of Airbnb is that anybody can participate because the model is extremely democratic. If you have a house and one room in the house is vacant, you can use it for renting out on a short-term basis on Airbnb.

Thousands of people across countries are going through financial crunches during the pandemic because of employment loss and health issues. They started renting out on Airbnb and could earn extra cash through that. Additionally, the ongoing demand and popularity of Airbnb significantly helped the travel industry sustain through the pandemic.

Additionally, as the pandemic is less severe now, more people have started renting out their places on a short-term basis to travellers on Airbnb. Airbnb has proven to be a saviour for the global tourism sector. Because in the last two years, when the pandemic hit the tourism industry so badly, it was through Airbnb that some people could sustain well in the industry.
