  • Lithium Universe completes solar tech acquisition
  • Focus on sustainable metal recovery from solar waste
  • MJHT to power next-gen recycling innovation

Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX:LU7) has finalised the acquisition of New Age Minerals Pty Ltd, securing full ownership of a unique photovoltaic (PV) solar panel recycling technology. This move reinforces the company’s broader commitment to sustainable practices, particularly in the domain of critical metals recovery — an area becoming increasingly vital to global clean energy efforts.

Although not part of the ASX 200 stocks, Lithium Universe is carving a distinctive path in the renewables and resource recovery sector. The company's latest milestone brings into its fold a patented innovation developed in collaboration with Macquarie University — known as Microwave Joule Heating Technology (MJHT). This proprietary method is designed to extract critical materials such as silver, silicon, gallium, and indium from used solar panels, directly addressing the growing concern over electronic and renewable waste.

The completion of this acquisition forms a crucial part of Lithium Universe’s dual-pronged strategy: advancing a green lithium production ecosystem while also tackling the challenges of solar panel waste. By incorporating this cutting-edge recycling method, the company not only enhances its environmental credentials but also strengthens its position in the evolving supply chain of strategic metals.

MJHT presents an energy-efficient and scalable solution for extracting high-value components from discarded PV panels. The initial phase of the company's recycling push will focus on silver recovery — a material essential for various technologies including solar cells and electronics. However, the broader vision extends beyond silver, with the company aiming to unlock the full range of recoverable materials embedded within solar hardware.

Collaboration with the research team at Macquarie University will now intensify, with plans underway to further refine and scale the MJHT process. The goal is to unlock commercial applications that meet the needs of a circular economy and respond to the resource challenges of the clean energy transition.

Lithium Universe is also developing a lithium carbonate refinery in Bécancour, Québec — aligning both arms of its sustainability mission. By integrating solar panel recycling with lithium refining, the company aspires to be a front-runner in future-focused resource strategies.

As global demand for critical metals surges, such proactive innovations place Lithium Universe on a promising trajectory toward environmental impact and industry relevance.
