Highlights:

  • Sunshine Metals has identified a 6km untested stratigraphic contact at the Liontown project in Queensland.
  • Tight folding has created a 3.5km dome, forming high-potential targets for gold and copper exploration.
  • Drilling activities are scheduled to commence at Tigertown and other significant regions by next month.

The Liontown project, an exciting venture by Sunshine Metals (ASX:SHN), is set to explore the newly discovered 6km of untested stratigraphic contact in Queensland. This development is part of the Ravenswood Consolidated project, which has already shown tremendous promise with its 6Mt at 3.6g/t gold equivalent resource. Notably, tight folding has created a 3.5km long dome to the north, offering significant exploration opportunities.

Dr Damien Keys, the managing director of Sunshine Metals, highlights the strategic exploration efforts in this geologically rewarding area. The identification of stratigraphic contacts is pivotal in identifying high-grade volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits, and the Liontown contact has been intensely folded, potentially containing valuable mineral deposits. A dome geometry formed at the Liontown dome presents untapped potential, with limited drilling results already showcasing impressive gold intersections.

Upcoming Drilling Operations

Sunshine Metals is poised to initiate drilling at Tigertown in February. This will be followed by evaluating four other targets, namely Cougartown, Cougartown West, Lynx, and Liontown North, all located near the promising domed contact. Despite prior limited drilling, encouraging results from Tigertown and Cougartown reveal promising paths for further exploration. Tigertown yielded a 17m intersection grading 3.05g/t gold, among other notable results at Cougartown.

A Region with Rich History

The Liontown area is part of a prolific Queensland district known for producing over 20Moz of gold and 14Mt of volcanogenic massive sulphide ore rich in copper, gold, zinc, and lead. First discovered in 1905, Liontown's geological records show a complex stratigraphy, prompting Sunshine Metals' innovative exploration techniques. The Liontown East resource benefited from a 2017 IP survey, and further IP studies are planned for the expansive dome to define precise drill targets.
