Pantoro Ltd (ASX:PNR), a key player in the mining sector, has expanded its leadership team by appointing Stuart Mathews, a mining professional with over 30 years of experience, as an independent non-executive director. This addition is expected to play a crucial role in driving the company’s growth, particularly with its ongoing projects at the Scotia underground mine and the Norseman Gold Project.
Mathews is highly respected within the mining industry for his proven ability to manage projects at every stage, from initial feasibility assessments to full-scale mine operations. This is an invaluable skill set as Pantoro continues to scale its operations. His deep understanding of mine site management and operations will undoubtedly be a significant asset to the company’s leadership team.
Before joining Pantoro, Mathews had a distinguished career at Gold Fields Limited (ASX:GFI), where he retired in 2024 after serving as the executive vice president – Australasia. During his tenure, Mathews was pivotal in developing and implementing strategic pathways for the company’s operations. Notably, he contributed significantly to the expansion of the St Ives operation, located near the Norseman region, in a geological setting similar to Pantoro’s own Norseman Gold Project.
Pantoro’s chairman, Wayne Zekulich, expressed his enthusiasm about the new appointment, highlighting Mathews’ technical and operational expertise as an excellent complement to the existing skill set within the company’s board. His background in overseeing major mining projects aligns perfectly with the strategic direction of Pantoro as the company seeks to boost its operational efficiency and explore key growth opportunities.
Mathews has worked on several prominent projects throughout his career. His success includes overseeing the development of the Cowal Gold Project for Barrick Australia, the Palmarejo Silver-Gold Mine in Mexico for Coeur D’Alene Mines, and the Mineral Hill Mine for KBL Mining. These experiences further demonstrate his capacity for managing large-scale projects and optimizing operational output, capabilities he is expected to bring to Pantoro’s own growing portfolio of gold operations.
The appointment of Stuart Mathews comes at a critical time in Pantoro’s development strategy. As the company ramps up its mining activities, Mathews’ leadership will ensure that the projects at the Norseman and Scotia mines continue to progress successfully, ensuring the company is well-positioned for future growth in the mining sector.
