Highlights
- Anson Resources enhances lithium chloride purity at Green River
- Technological trials point to downstream efficiency gains
- Project footprint expanded through strategic claim additions
Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) is progressing its Green River lithium project in southeastern Utah with a key advancement in purification processes, further strengthening its position in the evolving battery materials landscape. Though not currently part of the ASX 200, this development showcases the type of innovation that often characterises companies within the index.
A recent refinement initiative has led to successful reduction of trace impurities in lithium chloride eluate, marking a notable step forward in the project’s processing capabilities. This “polishing” phase leverages advanced direct lithium extraction technology to produce a cleaner, higher-quality lithium feedstock. Such purification upgrades not only improve the end product but also contribute to potentially lowering processing overheads in future lithium carbonate production facilities.
The trial was conducted using a pilot setup that processes lithium chloride output and prepares it for the final phases of evaporation and carbonation. These steps are crucial in producing battery-grade lithium carbonate, the key ingredient used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries and energy storage systems.
Complementing this technical success, Anson’s downstream development arm has been refining a processing flowsheet that supports larger-scale applications. This strategic approach is expected to streamline scalability and enhance cost efficiencies in long-term operations.
In parallel, Anson’s associated company Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX) has dispatched a bulk brine sample from Green River to South Korea for independent testing. The sample, noted for its high purity and iron-free characteristics, is part of due diligence activities for a proposed demonstration plant. The results will inform early-stage engineering and cost planning for potential future infrastructure on site.
Anson Resources has also expanded its Green River landholding by securing additional strategic claims. The extended coverage aligns with a state-approved lease and ensures broader exploration and development potential. These additions are set to be integrated into the next phase of mineral resource evaluation.
Altogether, these combined efforts illustrate Anson’s strategic commitment to enhancing value across the lithium supply chain. From purification upgrades to exploration expansion, the Green River project continues to evolve in alignment with global clean energy trends and growing lithium demand.
