Highlights

  • Recce Pharmaceuticals’ R327G Phase 2 trial meets primary endpoints with promising patient outcomes.
  • Interim results reveal strong therapeutic responses in patients treated for bacterial skin infections.
  • The trial reaffirms R327G’s safety and effectiveness, with completion expected by late 2024.

Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:RCE) recently reported encouraging interim results from its Phase 2 clinical trial for the RECCE® 327 Topical Gel (R327G), a treatment aimed at Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI). With 20 out of 30 patients already dosed, the trial demonstrates a strong therapeutic response, meeting primary endpoints for either complete recovery or notable improvement in all patients treated so far. The company anticipates completing the trial by the end of 2024, and to date, no serious adverse events (SAEs) have been reported, further supporting the safety profile of R327G.

These promising outcomes highlight R327G’s potential to address challenging bacterial infections, such as diabetic foot infections, where treatment options remain limited. Dr. Alan Dunton, Chief Medical Advisor at Recce Pharmaceuticals, commented on the interim findings, emphasizing the significance of these results. He noted, “The robust response we are seeing with R327G is encouraging, especially as we near completion of the Phase 2 trial.” According to Dr. Dunton, the successful patient responses, marked by complete cures or substantial improvement, underscore R327G’s potential impact in managing complex bacterial infections effectively.

This data supports further development of R327G as an innovative synthetic anti-infective therapy. Additionally, a recent endorsement from the non-Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) reinforces confidence in its progression through regulatory pathways.

Recce Pharmaceuticals is focused on advancing synthetic anti-infectives to combat both antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections and emerging viral threats. Its flagship products, including RECCE® 327, have earned recognition from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Generating Antibiotic Incentives Now (GAIN) Act, highlighting the critical role these treatments may play in addressing unmet medical needs.

The ABSSSI market, projected to reach $26 billion by 2032, presents substantial potential for R327G following regulatory approval. As Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) advances towards final trial results, the positive interim outcomes reinforce the impact of R327G as a potential solution in the fight against antibiotic-resistant infections.
