On Monday, shares of Emyria (ASX:EMD) experienced a notable 9.4% increase, reaching 3.5 cents per share, following the announcement of positive interim results from their MDMA-assisted psychotherapy trials for PTSD patients.
The interim data revealed that eight patients undergoing MDMA therapy, administered in conjunction with a professional therapist, showed "substantial improvement" in their PTSD symptoms. This improvement was self-reported by the patients, suggesting enhancements in their overall quality of life.
Emyria’s interim results indicate that MDMA therapy not only provides immediate symptom relief but may also foster long-term psychological improvements. Although detailed patient feedback metrics were not disclosed, the study included both male and female participants with an average age of 45 years.
The treatment protocol, as outlined by Emyria, involves a comprehensive 10 to 16-week program. This includes over 90 hours of therapeutic sessions and specialist consultations, alongside MDMA dosages. The interim data is based on two to three therapy sessions.
Emyria’s full program spans 2 to 4 months, incorporating multiple therapeutic sessions and addressing potential dependence issues that may arise. The company's approach aims to offer a broader and more durable solution for PTSD care beyond controlled clinical settings.
According to Michael Winlo, CEO of Emyria, the preliminary results underscore the significant potential of MDMA-assisted therapy for treating PTSD and provide valuable insights into its effectiveness in real-world clinical settings. With Australia being the sole jurisdiction currently allowing these therapies under strict regulations, Emyria is strategically positioned to lead the global advancement and refinement of this treatment modality. The company is focused on accumulating crucial real-world data and enhancing the therapy to maximize its therapeutic benefits.
As Emyria progresses with its research and development, the results of this interim report highlight the promising future of MDMA-assisted therapy in addressing PTSD and other mental health conditions.
