Alterity’s ATH434 Recognized in Metallomics for Innovative Neurological Treatment Approach

Alterity Therapeutics (ASX:ATH) has garnered peer-reviewed recognition for its lead neurological drug candidate, ATH434, in the journal Metallomics. The study supports the mechanism of action of ATH434, which targets the toxic effects of excess reactive iron in the brain. This breakthrough highlights the potential of ATH434 in treating neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy (MSA). Alterity's CEO, Dr. David Stamler, emphasized the importance of using an iron-targeting agent to address oxidative stress and protein aggregation associated with these disorders. ATH434's novel approach as an "iron chaperone" has the potential to alleviate neurodegeneration caused by iron overload, a key factor in diseases like Friedreich’s Ataxia and Parkinson’s. Positive interim data from Alterity’s Phase II trial for MSA was also released earlier this year, with further results anticipated in January 2025.

Respiri to Benefit from US Reimbursement Changes for Remote Monitoring

Respiri (ASX), a diagnostics company focused on respiratory diseases, has announced that it stands to benefit from proposed changes to reimbursement criteria in the US. The American Medical Association (AMA) has introduced new rules for remote patient monitoring (RPM), which will expand the availability of reimbursement for tools like Respiri’s Wheezo device. Wheezo, an app-based diagnostic tool for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is now set to see increased adoption due to the lowering of thresholds for reimbursement eligibility. These changes could increase Respiri’s revenue from remote monitoring services, with the company estimating a potential increase in per-patient fees and a significant expansion of its customer base. Respiri’s shares have risen sharply, reflecting growing market optimism.

Osteopore Secures Exclusive Distribution Deal for Orthopedic Products in Singapore

Osteopore (ASX), a company specializing in 3D-printed, bioresorbable implants, has secured an exclusive distribution agreement for its orthopedic products in Singapore. The five-year deal with Swiss partner DKSH comes after Osteopore’s products were approved by Singapore’s health regulator earlier this year. The focus will be on high tibial osteotomy (HTO) surgeries, which are used to treat knee osteoarthritis. With an estimated 10% of the Singaporean population affected by knee osteoarthritis, the demand for such procedures is on the rise. Osteopore has also expanded its global footprint with another exclusive agreement with Zimmer Biomet for distribution in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Despite challenges earlier this year, Osteopore continues to make strides in commercializing its innovative products.
