Highlights
- Major gold intercept reported at Comet Vale’s Lakeview site
- Multiple high-grade gold intervals identified at depth
- Expansion of drilling efforts to map mineralization underway
Gorilla Gold Mines (ASX:GG8) has reported a significant high-grade gold discovery at its Lakeview prospect, part of the Comet Vale project near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. Known for its long-standing mining history, the region continues to deliver promising exploration results, with the latest drilling campaign highlighting the untapped potential beneath the surface.
The standout result came from drill hole LVEX027, where the company intersected a broad 96-metre mineralized zone. Within this zone, a 20-metre section returned a high-grade result of 6.1 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold from a depth of 153 metres. This represents one of the most substantial intercepts reported by the company to date at the Lakeview site.
Additional intervals within this broader zone include 2 metres at 4.6 g/t gold from 128 metres, 6 metres at 1.0 g/t gold from 134 metres, 4 metres at 2.5 g/t gold from 176 metres, 5 metres at 2.7 g/t gold from 189 metres, and 4 metres at 4.7 g/t gold from 213 metres. These results point to a well-developed mineralized system, extending over significant vertical depth.
The company’s geological team believes that this intercept is thicker than those previously recorded and may reflect the presence of a sigmoidal jog or a linking structure within the regional shear zone. This structural interpretation is being closely examined, as such geological features are often associated with the accumulation of substantial gold mineralization.
To build on these findings, Gorilla Gold Mines is preparing to mobilize an additional reverse circulation drill rig to the site. This move will accelerate exploration efforts and support a more detailed understanding of the deposit's scale and geometry. The goal is to refine the geological model and assess the full potential of the Lakeview prospect.
Early observations of alteration zones and consistent low-level gold anomalies support the theory of a broader mineralized system. These indicators further strengthen the company’s confidence in the prospect and its regional significance.
As exploration activities continue, the recent discovery at Lakeview stands as a strong example of the value that targeted, data-driven exploration can bring to established mining regions. The outcomes of this work are expected to contribute meaningfully to ongoing discussions within the industry and among stakeholders tracking the evolution of the Western Australian gold sector.
