  • Facility to convert organic waste into renewable gas and biogenic liquid CO₂.
  • Project supports industrial decarbonisation with long-term economic benefits.

Delorean Corporation (ASX:DEL) has taken a major step forward in advancing renewable energy solutions with a $6 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The funding will accelerate the development of the company’s cutting-edge SA1 bioenergy facility in South Australia, a project designed to transform organic waste into renewable gas and biogenic liquid carbon dioxide (LCO₂).

Advancing a Circular Economy

The SA1 facility is set to revolutionize waste management by diverting organic waste from landfills and converting it into valuable energy resources. This initiative not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also supports the growing demand for renewable energy in industrial sectors. The project aligns with Australia’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a circular economy.

A Major Milestone in Renewable Energy

Delorean’s managing director, Joe Oliver, emphasized the significance of ARENA’s support, calling it a transformative step for both the company and the broader energy sector. The financial backing ensures the project’s progress and enhances the long-term viability of Delorean’s renewable energy developments.

“This funding enables us to achieve a major milestone with SA1 while creating long-term sustainable revenue streams,” Oliver stated. “It also underscores the credibility and bankability of our near-term and medium-term development pipeline.”

Producing Mains-Grade Biomethane

A key highlight of the SA1 project is its capability to upgrade biogas into mains-grade biomethane, which will be integrated into the Adelaide gas network under long-term agreements currently being finalized. Additionally, the facility will generate Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin Certificates (RGGOs) under GreenPower’s gas certification scheme, further reinforcing its environmental and financial benefits.

Driving Industrial Decarbonisation

As industries look for viable solutions to lower their carbon footprint, projects like SA1 play a crucial role in providing renewable alternatives. According to Oliver, this facility will be instrumental in decarbonizing hard-to-abate industrial sectors by offering sustainable energy solutions that address Scope 1 emissions.

Tapping Into Biomethane’s Potential

ARENA’s chief executive officer, Darren Miller, highlighted the potential of biomethane in industrial decarbonisation, noting that transforming food and organic waste into renewable gas is an innovative way to cut emissions while fostering a circular economy.

With strong government backing and a forward-thinking approach, Delorean (DEL) is positioning itself at the forefront of Australia’s renewable energy transition, paving the way for a more sustainable and low-carbon future.
