APA Group, a leading Australian energy infrastructure company, has announced its final investment decision to construct a AUD 450 million pipeline in support of the Hunter Power Project. This gas-fired power station will play a crucial role in bolstering New South Wales' hydro-electric supply.
The proposed Kurri Kurri Lateral Pipeline, spanning 12.4 miles, will be built, owned, and operated by APA Group. It will serve as a vital link connecting the Hunter Power Project with an existing pipeline linking Sydney and Newcastle, along with a gas storage facility.
As Australia's aging coal stations face closures, the Hunter Power Project is poised to bridge the gap in electricity demand. The integration of renewable energy sources with reliable gas supply is seen as a critical strategy in the transition away from coal in the nation's energy landscape.
APA's Chief Executive and Managing Director, Adam Watson, affirmed this approach, stating,

Already committing AUD 120 million of project capital expenditure in the 2023 fiscal year for essential materials procurement, APA Group has received all necessary approvals, paving the way for major construction to commence promptly.
Additionally, revenue from the Kurri Kurri project will be associated to consumer price index of Australia, offering a stable financial outlook for the venture.
With this significant investment in infrastructure, APA Group demonstrates its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and securing the future of New South Wales' power supply. The Kurri Kurri Lateral Pipeline represents a crucial step forward in Australia's transition towards a more sustainable and reliable energy mix.
