Highlights

On Tuesday (5 April 2022), the S&P/ASX200 Index was trading up, gaining 0.56% to 7,556.10. On the other side, nine out of 11 sectors are trading higher today at the time of writing this article along with the S&P/ASX 200 Index on the same day. Information Technology is the best performing sector today while the energy sector is second top, gaining more than 2.15%. This is in line with the S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index, which gained 2.22% today (5 April 2022) to 10,289.20.
In this article will look at the performance of four energy companies, including Woodside Petroleum Ltd, Santos Limited, Washington H Soul Pattinson & Company Limited, and Ampol Limited.
Woodside Petroleum Ltd (ASX:WPL)
Woodside Petroleum Limited, an Australia-based petroleum exploration and production company, is engaged in the hydrocarbon business. The company focuses on liquefied natural gas (LNG), and operates through production, development, and other segments (trading and shipping activities).

On 31 March 2022, Woodside informed through an ASX filing that the Northwest Shelf Project's (NWS) Karratha Gas Plant has started processing gas from the offshore Pluto resources ahead of schedule (KGP). The start-up of the Pluto-KGP Interconnector has permitted this increased Pluto gas output (Interconnector).
Today (5 April 2022), Woodside's shares were trading 2.85% higher at AU$33.96 apiece at the time of writing this article.
The company has returned roughly 55% YTD to its shareholders. The stock's surge was accelerated by the rise in oil prices past US$120 per barrel, to their highest levels since 2008.

Santos Limited (ASX:STO)
Santos Limited, a natural gas company, is engaged in exploration and production activities in Australia. The company sells ethane, gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil, condensate, naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

At the time of writing this article, Santos' shares were 1.89% up at AU$8.07 each. The company has provided a YTD return of almost 28% to its shareholders.
Ampol Limited (ASX:ALD)
In Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States, Ampol Limited purchases, refines, distributes, and markets petroleum products. The company's segments are convenience retail, fuels, and infrastructure.
Last week (on 1 April 2022), Ampol cleared it has resolved the dispute with EG relating to the fuel supply agreement that was novated from Woolworths to EG in 2019. Before that, on 25 March 2022, the company noted that Z Energy Limited shareholders voted in favour of the Scheme of Arrangement under which Ampol Holdings NZ Limited (Ampol NZ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ampol, will acquire 100% of the shares in Z Energy.
Shares of Ampol were trading 3.65% higher today (5 April 2022) at AU$31.51 per share on ASX. The company's shares provided a 5% growth in its YTD price.
