 ASX 200 closes in red; Utilities gains; Materials leads losses

  • The S&P/ASX 200 closed lower on Friday (28 October 2022), dropping 61.80 points or 0.90% to 6,783.30 points.
  • Six out of eleven sectors ended higher.

The S&P/ASX 200 benchmark index closed a tad lower on Friday (28 October 2022), losing 0.90% to 6,783.30 points (as of 4:10 PM AEDT).

Key pointers from ASX close today

  • The ASX 200 benchmark index closed a tad down today at 6,783.30 points.
  • Under the index, Brainchip Holdings Ltd (ASX:BRN) and Imugene Limited (ASX:IMU) closed 19.12% and 11.84% lower respectively.
  • Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS) and Qube Holdings (ASX:QUB) ended 5.281% and 5.273% higher respectively.
  • In last five trading sessions, ASX 200 has gained 1.60% but is down 8.88% for the last year-to-date.
  • Meanwhile, the Materials sector ended 3.98% weak, followed by the Information Technology sector that closed 1.95% lower.
  • Utilities ended 1.36% up. A-REIT and Industrials each closed 0.78% up.
  • Consumer Discretionary sector closed 1.01% lower while Health Care ended 0.94% lower.

 

Newsmakers

Nitro Software Limited (ASX:NTO) shared that Potentia Capital Management Pty Ltd has made a final takeover offer of AU$1.80 per share of Nitro. Nitro’s shares traded last at AU$1.730 apiece on ASX as its shares were put on trading halt today. 

Cobre Limited (ASX:CBE) shared results from its recent exploration activities at the Ngami Copper Project. Results have recorded significant copper mineralisation, containing both grade and width at the Comet Target in the Ngami Project. Meanwhile, Cobre’s shares ended today’s trading session 20% stronger at AU$0.180 per share.

Iress Limited (ASX:IRE) announced the completion of its share buyback program today. The company has also informed that it has signed a master services agreement with Commonwealth Superannuation Commission today. Iress’ shares were trading at AU$9.980 apiece, up 1.422% on ASX at 4:00 PM AEDT today.

Australia 10-year bond yield stands at 3.768% at 3:53 PM AEDT, 28 October 2022.

In global markets:

Stocks on Wall Street closed mixed on Thursday (27 October 2022).

The S&P 500 fell 23.30 points or 0.61% to end at 3,807.30 points. The Nasdaq Composite declined 1.63% or 178.32 points to end at 10,792.68 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.61% or 194.17 points up at 32,033.28 points on Thursday.

In Commodities markets:

Crude Oil WTI was spotted at US$88.19/bbl at 3:50 PM AEDT. Brent oil was at US$94.28/bbl at 3:51 PM AEDT. Gold futures for December contract was at US$1,668.40 an ounce at 3:52 PM AEDT today (28 October 2022).
