Highlights

  • American Salars Lithium enhances its Pocitos project with a significant land acquisition in Argentina.
  • The company's footprint in the region expands by 1635%, positioning it strongly amongst industry giants like Rio Tinto.
  • Recent drilling activities show promising results for future resource upgrades and production capabilities.

American Salars Lithium (CSE:USLI) has announced an ambitious expansion of its flagship Pocitos project in Argentina. With the signing of a letter of intent, the company aims to acquire the adjacent Salar de Pocitos project, thereby enhancing its existing landholdings by an impressive 1635% to encompass 13,880 hectares. This substantial expansion makes it one of the most significant property holders on the Salar de Pocitos in Salta Province.

The strategic location of the new 13,080-hectare Salar De Pocitos project, coupled with its proximity to vital infrastructure such as Provincial Highway Route 17 and the Pocitos Industrial Park, promises seamless logistics that could streamline future production efforts. This move places American Salars Lithium in a formidable position alongside industry leaders such as Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), Eramet, and Ganfeng Lithium.

The newly acquired land comes with a rich history of exploration, including drilling, surface sampling, and geophysics, which provides a robust foundation for further resource development. Initial investigations include borehole magnetic resonance surveys, which will aid in refining and upgrading the existing NI 43-10 resource estimates. This is projected to improve resource accuracy for the combined Pocitos 1 and third-party Pocitos 2 blocks, facilitating a comprehensive update of the company's resources.

The extensive exploration endeavors carried out so far have been promising. In 2022, drill results recorded lithium concentrations of up to 169 parts per million in specific boreholes, advancing the potential for high-yield resource extraction. Notably, the collaboration with Ekosolve Ltd has led to the production of lithium carbonate with a purity level of 99.8%, achieving a recovery rate exceeding 94% from the brine, demonstrating the project's significant extraction capabilities despite higher magnesium content.

This expansion represents a strategic move that strengthens USLI's portfolio by consolidating additional resources and leveraging existing infrastructure for enhanced operational potential. With initial work planned for detailed data compilation and resource integration, the subsequent phases will focus on scoping and feasibility studies aimed at advancing the project towards commercial production.

American Salars has demonstrated a steady pattern of growth through strategic acquisitions, as seen with recent projects such as Leduc East in Quebec and Jaguaribe in Brazil. These endeavors underline the company's commitment to scaling its operations and augmenting its resource base in the lithium sector, thereby asserting its capability to meet growing global lithium demand.

With this acquisition, American Salars Lithium is not just enhancing its physical holdings but is also positioning itself for long-term operational success and heightened industry competitiveness.
