Copper Search expands Eromanga Basin footprint with new tenement stakes
Initial samples show signs of zircon, ilmenite, leucoxene, and rutile composition
Preparations underway for fieldwork, heritage approvals, and aircore drilling
Copper Search Ltd (ASX:CUS), listed on the All Ordinaries, is accelerating its focus on heavy mineral sands (HMS) exploration in South Australia. The junior explorer has staked two new tenements near William Creek, adding to its growing Eromanga Basin Project portfolio. This move follows the identification of HMS indicators at existing sites within the region.
The company has reported favourable sample compositions from earlier reconnaissance work, supporting the decision to expand its footprint. These findings have shaped plans for upcoming on-ground campaigns targeting further delineation of mineral-rich zones.
Mapping and Sampling Scheduled to Identify Priority Drill Targets
Copper Search is set to commence field activities next week, aiming to carry out mapping and sampling across its newly secured ground. The goal of this initial stage is to identify key targets for future drilling phases. The company is adopting a step-by-step strategy, beginning with surface studies before initiating subsurface investigations.
A heritage survey, scheduled for late August, will be conducted in collaboration with the Arabana Traditional Owners. This step is critical in progressing to drilling activity, ensuring alignment with cultural and environmental expectations.
Drilling Campaign Planned for Multiple Targets Pending Approvals
The exploration roadmap includes a proposed aircore drilling program across the Nilpinna, Anna Creek, and Eddy targets within the Eromanga Basin. Subject to necessary approvals, the company intends to carry out drilling during the second half of 2025. This phase will aim to define the extent and quality of HMS deposits, setting the stage for further technical evaluations.
Copper Search’s management has highlighted the early success of integrating machine learning tools and historic data in shaping exploration decisions. By leveraging these insights, the team has methodically staked additional ground deemed prospective for HMS discoveries.
Ongoing Work at Copper-Gold Project in New South Wales
Beyond South Australia, Copper Search is maintaining momentum at its copper-gold exploration project in New South Wales. The Byrock Project is currently undergoing a gravity survey to refine drill targeting. The results of this survey are expected to support future drilling strategies across key zones of interest.
In parallel, the company has submitted applications for co-funding support from the New South Wales Government to advance drilling and geophysical studies. Updates on these applications are anticipated later this year.
