  • Austmine and Austrade launch SEA METS engagement program
  • Focus on sustainable mining and Indonesian market entry
  • Limited enrolment for exclusive readiness training

Austmine, in collaboration with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), has initiated a strategic effort to enhance the international footprint of Australia's Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector through the Southeast Asia (SEA) Sustainable Mining METS Engagement Program.

At the heart of this initiative lies a comprehensive market readiness program designed to equip Australian METS companies with the tools and insights needed to establish a sustainable presence in Indonesia, the largest mining economy in Southeast Asia. Indonesia’s mining sector is a global powerhouse, particularly in coal, nickel, copper, and gold. The emerging demand for refined nickel and advancements in underground mining and operational digitisation present a timely opportunity for Australian METS players to contribute meaningfully to Indonesia's green transition.

This program offers a structured, three-part online training tailored for Australian METS businesses, focusing on real-world operational strategies and cross-cultural navigation. It aims to prepare participants to engage effectively with Indonesian partners, understand regulatory landscapes, and develop robust, locally tailored market entry approaches.

The collaboration positions Australia’s METS capabilities as integral to supporting Indonesia’s sustainable development goals in mining. With digitisation and environmental accountability becoming pivotal themes, the program aligns well with broader trends observed in the ASX200-listed industrial and mining services sector.

Austmine’s role in this venture also underlines its commitment to globalising Australia's METS expertise, fostering stronger business ties within Southeast Asia, and enhancing the sector’s competitive edge in sustainability-focused innovation.

Registrations for the training are limited to 20 companies, making this an exclusive opportunity for targeted business development in the region. The deadline for applications closes on 20 June, with enrolment results scheduled to be communicated during the week of 23 June 2025.

METS-related ASX-listed firms such as Orica (ASX:ORI), Imdex (ASX:IMD), and Austin Engineering (ASX:ANG) are expected to benefit from strategic expansions like these, considering their existing service offerings and regional aspirations.

By driving innovation, cross-border collaboration, and local engagement strategies, the SEA METS Engagement Program reinforces Australia’s long-term stake in the sustainable evolution of Southeast Asia’s resource economy.
