As per ABS statistics, payroll jobs have fallen by 0.4% over the month to 22 August across Australia and by 2% in Victoria. Bjorn Jarvis, ABS Head of Labor Statistics stated that though payroll jobs witnessed a fall in the third week of August as well, but they dropped at a slower rate than earlier in the month. Some of the details include:
- Payroll jobs in Victoria were 7.9% below the mid-March levels, compared to 2.9% for the rest of Australia.
- Payroll jobs in Accommodation and food services and the Arts and recreation services industries bore biggest losses but have regained 40% and 49% respectively since the mid-April lows.
