On 04 November 2020, Tokyo stocks ended the session higher because of the tough US presidential election contested between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended the session 1.72% above its previous close and settled at 23,695.23.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ended 1.20% above its last close at 1,627.25.

The top gaining sectors were mining, pharmaceutical and service issues.
