Market Close Commentary; 28 August 2020

The Australian share market closed for the week after a gloomy trading session, all the trading happened in the red zone. The benchmark index S&P/ASX200 settled at 6073.8, down by 0.86 per cent as compared to yesterday's closure of 6126.2.

In the US stock market on Thursday, the Nasdaq Composite dropped by 0.34 per cent, S&P 500 was up by 0.17 per cent and the Dow Industrials gained 0.57 per cent.

The commodity section today at AEST 2:58 PM - the Australian dollar was up by 0.59 per cent and was trading at AUD 0.7298, gold surged by 0.80 per cent and was trading at USD 1944.97. If we talk about crude oil, it was down by 0.16 per cent and was trading at USD 42.95 a barrel.

The stocks that exceeded others in today's trading session are:

  • PolyNovo Limited (ASX:PNV)was the top gainer today. It traded at AUD 2.28 and was up by 12.87 per cent.
  • Costa Group Holdings Limited (ASX:CGC) remained the second top gainer. It traded at AUD 3.31 and was up by 11.82 per cent.

The stocks that suffered the most today are:

  • Appen Limited(ASX:APX) traded at AUD 34.65 and was down by 10.35 per cent.
  • Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX:CUV) traded at AUD 21.00, down by 5.19 per cent.
