Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN) has announced an exciting new phase in its exploration efforts, with plans for a maiden drilling program at the Phat Boy Copper prospect. Phat Boy lies at its wholly owned Yidby East project in the mid-western region of Western Australia.
Surefire has submitted a Program of Work (PoW) to the Western Australian Department of Energy Mines Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) to prepare for the drilling. This PoW outlines an initial drilling program consisting of 11 Reverse Circulation (RC) holes. Once approved, site access will utilise existing tracks, with additional routes constructed as necessary.

The project is believed to be situated in a geological and structural environment similar to the world-class Golden Grove massive sulphide deposit. Surefire plans to explore the area's potential for both massive and disseminated sulphide mineralisation.
Additionally, Surefire is carrying out a follow-up soil sampling program to further investigate findings from the initial soil sampling, particularly over the northern flank of the BIF. Initial results indicated significant copper and zinc anomalies in this area.
Managing Director Paul Burton expressed optimism about the project, stating, “Surefire is of the view that the high tenor of soil results, coupled with the presence of gossanous material and the previous occurrence of native copper and sulphides, makes this early planning for drilling approvals a prudent step as we advance this exciting programme”.
The initial campaign of 11 RC holes will reach a maximum depth of 200 metres, totaling 2,200 metres. The drilling will focus on four target areas (T1 – T4) situated towards the east of the company’s Yidby Gold project and the Money geochemical target.
The share price of SRN was AU$ 0.0070 at the time of writing on 03 October 2024.
