Solara Minerals expands exploration through Wilgeena project
Geological reviews reveal multiple gold anomalies
Exploration team mobilised for on-ground evaluation
Solara Minerals (ASX:SLA) has expanded its exploration footprint with the Wilgeena gold project situated in Western Australia’s Murchison region. The project was secured through the acquisition of OD4 Tom Price, which also included a range of additional gold and copper prospects located within the Bryah Basin.
Wilgeena is strategically positioned near established operations, including Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX) Peak Hill Gold Mine and Catalyst Metals (ASX:CYL) Hermes gold deposit. Its close proximity to these projects provides a strong geological setting and enhances the overall significance of the exploration campaign.
Exploration Licences and Prospective Ground
The acquisition added seven exploration licences to Solara’s portfolio, creating a large and highly prospective area. These licences cover a substantial zone north of Meekatharra, historically known for hosting mineral-rich terrains. The ground has undergone initial assessments, but much of it remains underexplored, presenting fresh for further discoveries.
Previous geological surveys within the project area have highlighted structures with mineralisation trends that warrant further investigation. These findings form the basis of Solara’s upcoming field activities, designed to map mineralised systems with greater precision.
Historical Data Review
A desktop study was undertaken by Solara, reviewing past exploration results including geological mapping, geophysics, and geochemistry. The assessment revealed several gold anomalies that had been identified but not thoroughly followed up. Earlier programs consisted mainly of shallow drilling, leaving deeper prospective structures largely untested.
This gap in exploration provides Solara with an to advance work across zones that display encouraging signals. The company aims to prioritise areas where stratigraphy intersects with structural trends, which have historically been favourable for gold mineralisation in the region.
On-Ground Exploration Efforts
An exploration team has been deployed to Wilgeena, with immediate efforts focused on high-priority targets. Activities will include detailed site inspections, sampling programs, and assessments of anomalous gold zones. These efforts are intended to refine targets for upcoming drill campaigns and generate insights into the scale of mineralisation across the licences.
Solara is also progressing with a Heritage Agreement in collaboration with the Jidi Jidi Aboriginal Corporation, ensuring exploration activities are aligned with cultural and community. This process is an essential step in preparing for more extensive fieldwork in the coming phases.
Forward Exploration Path
With fieldwork expected to commence soon, the focus will be on soil sampling and geological evaluation aimed at delineating mineralised structures more clearly. This program is designed to build on historical data, targeting areas with the greatest for identifying gold mineralisation at depth. The approach reflects a systematic strategy to unlock value from underexplored ground within the Murchison region.
