Nexus Minerals completes RC drilling at Payns prospect in Western Australia
Program expands following encouraging geological indicators
Assay results anticipated to refine the mineralised gold footprint
Gold exploration company Nexus Minerals (ASX:NXM), a constituent of the ASX 300, has successfully concluded its reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign at the Payns prospect. This site forms part of the broader Wallbrook Gold Project, situated within Western Australia's prolific Norseman–Wiluna Archean Greenstone Belt.
The finalised program was carried out in stages and adjusted mid-campaign due to strong geological cues identified from preliminary drilling results. Nexus reported that an additional round of drilling was added to the schedule, further enhancing geological understanding in the area.
Expanded Drilling Program Builds on Initial Results
Nexus Minerals commenced the campaign to follow up on a previously identified gold mineralisation footprint from earlier aircore drilling at Payns. The completed program ultimately included a significant number of RC drill holes, exceeding the original scope due to compelling in-field observations.
These findings prompted the exploration team to extend the drilling effort, capturing more data across prospective zones. According to the company, this field decision was aligned with its broader exploration approach aimed at systematically uncovering near-surface gold occurrences with efficiency and precision.
Geological Model Refinement and Assay Results Pending
The outcomes of the RC program will be instrumental in refining the geological model at Payns. Nexus stated that the latest drilling data will be used to enhance definition of the mineralised zones and inform the next stages of work at Wallbrook.
Assay results are expected by the end of July, and the company notes that the new data will support strategic planning for further work aimed at building a robust near-surface ounce profile.
Managing Director Andy Tudor acknowledged the exploration team’s performance in managing and executing the expanded campaign, noting the geological context observed during drilling as a key driver behind the program extension.
Project Positioning Within a Broader Portfolio Strategy
The Wallbrook Gold Project covers a large tenement holding in a region recognised for its historical and ongoing gold production. Nexus Minerals has consistently emphasised a disciplined and data-driven exploration strategy across this asset.
In addition to Wallbrook, the company’s broader portfolio spans gold and critical minerals projects across New South Wales and Victoria, including gold-copper and porphyry systems. This diversification underlines a growing interest in mineral systems with exposure to future-facing metals, while continuing to develop near-term gold prospects.
