Mount Hope Mining secures new exploration licence adjoining its existing Cobar Basin project
Priority polymetallic anomalies identified along Scotts Craig Fault in new licence area
Exploration activities to include soil geochemistry, ground geophysics, and drill targeting
Mount Hope Mining (ASX:MHM), listed on the All Ordinaries, has received approval for a new exploration licence adjoining its existing tenements in the Cobar Basin, New South Wales. The latest addition significantly expands the company’s regional footprint and is positioned to support upcoming exploration programs.
The newly granted licence was secured following a thorough review of historic surface geochemical data, with over ten thousand historic samples assessed. This analysis highlighted several polymetallic anomalies, particularly those aligned with the Scotts Craig Fault — a structural corridor now partly within Mount Hope’s expanded tenure.
New Ground Hosts Anomalies and Established Mineralised Trends
The new area was not selected as unexplored ground. Instead, the decision was driven by earlier regional compilation work that revealed anomalous geochemical signatures. Mount Hope Mining’s review uncovered features consistent with Cobar-style mineralisation, which is a hallmark of the broader basin.
CEO Fergus Kiley stated that the Scotts Craig Fault displays geochemical responses that strengthen the company’s technical confidence in the area. He also noted that the region contains structural corridors which align with the company’s broader exploration strategy across the Mount Hope Project.
Exploration Focus Intensifies Across Broader Project Area
Current exploration programs span both the original and newly added tenure. These efforts include soil geochemistry, geological mapping, ground geophysics, and drill targeting across multiple zones. The objective is to refine the understanding of the mineralised trends and define locations for follow-up activities.
The Mount Hope Project includes historical copper and gold mining sites such as Mount Hope, Comet, and Great Central for copper, and Mount Solitary and Solar for gold. The region remains of high interest due to its past production and geologic continuity.
Cobar Basin’s Rich Mining Legacy Anchors Exploration Effort
The southern Cobar Basin, where Mount Hope Mining is centred, carries a legacy of mining history that began with copper and gold in the late nineteenth century. Over time, the focus has evolved to include base metals, maintaining the region’s relevance in Australia’s mining landscape.
