  • Production and exploration updates in 2025 highlight silver's growing industrial role, especially in clean energy

  • Several companies have expanded landholdings and updated resource estimates to strengthen long-term mining operations

Australia continues to be a globally significant silver producer, hosting numerous listed companies with operations spanning exploration, development, and production. As silver demand increases due to its industrial uses and applications in clean energy technologies, several Mining Stocks on the ASX 200 have shown noteworthy activity. The following companies are among the largest silver-focused entities by market capitalisation on the Australian Securities Exchange, each with operations either domestically or overseas.

Adriatic Metals (ASX:ADT)

Adriatic Metals is a diversified base and precious metals company with operations in South-Central Europe. The company is producing silver through the Rupice deposit, part of the Vareš project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Initial production of silver-lead and zinc concentrates began in the early months of the previous year.

The Vareš project is based on an ore reserve with a mine life exceeding a decade. The deposit hosts silver, gold, zinc, lead, copper, and antimony. Adriatic provided guidance on silver equivalent output and highlighted a technical report showing processing capacity expansion plans. Production for the first quarter of the current year marked a notable increase from previous periods.

Silver Mines (ASX:SVL)

Silver Mines owns the Bowdens project in Central New South Wales, recognised as the largest undeveloped silver resource in the country. The project includes a broad land package and has been subject to exploration, reserve estimation, and permitting updates.

The development of Bowdens faced a delay due to legal challenges surrounding infrastructure planning. However, drilling programs have been implemented for sample collection, mine planning, and tailings optimisation. Additionally, exploration work is ongoing at the nearby Elsienora project, which holds both silver and gold mineralisation and has a history of exploration data dating back several decades.

Andean Silver (ASX:ASL)

Andean Silver is actively developing the Cerro Bayo project in Southern Chile. The company assumed ownership early last year and has since grown the known resource significantly. Cerro Bayo, a past-producing mine, was operational for more than a decade and has produced substantial silver and gold volumes.

Recent resource estimation shows an increase in silver equivalent ounces, with ore grades demonstrating high mineral content. Exploration activities are aimed at both expanding resources and upgrading resource categories. Funding remains strong, allowing sustained drilling and evaluation work at Cerro Bayo.

Unico Silver (ASX:USL)

Unico Silver is engaged in exploration and project development across Argentina. The Cerro Leon asset, its primary focus, includes both early-stage and advanced deposits. Recent acquisitions have added scale and continuity to the company's regional holdings, particularly through the inclusion of the Pingüino and Sierra Blanca projects.

The company also signed agreements to acquire additional nearby silver properties, further expanding its development pipeline. A drilling program has been launched at Cerro Leon, delivering high-grade intercepts. Work also commenced at the Joaquin site, which is expected to produce its initial assay results shortly.

Sun Silver (ASX:SS1)

Sun Silver is progressing the Maverick Springs project in Nevada, acquired during the previous calendar year. The project has seen landholding expansion through the acquisition of additional lode claims. These claims extend the mineralised zone and enhance exploration prospects.

Initial drilling campaigns at Maverick Springs returned notable silver grades. Based on the drill data, the inferred mineral resource estimate has been revised upward. Current drilling aims to upgrade this estimate and explore extension zones. Metallurgical testing is also in progress to refine processing methods.

These companies continue to shape the landscape of silver production and exploration. Their combined efforts reflect the dynamic role of Mining Stocks on the ASX 200 as silver demand evolves alongside industrial and energy transition trends.
