On 5 June, Western Australia (WA) twinned Northern Territory in ending biosecurity travel restrictions across remote neighbourhoods.
- The decision to relax the Emergency determination in WA comes from Professor Brendan Murphy, Chief Medical Officer, and is as per the PM’s structure of easing remote restrictions.
- WA government will be persistent in safeguarding remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through its own Remote Aboriginal Communities Direction.
- Aboriginal community is at greater risk from COVID-19 due to more health issues in remote communities, no easy access of healthcare, reliance on more travel and outreach services in remote areas.
The Government shall still examine the position in WA along with WA government, National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and AHCWA.
