Germany Drafts a Compensation Plan for Phasing-out Coal-Fired Stations

German government draft plans to compensate for phasing-out the coal-fired power stations.

  • The government would distribute compensation of 165,000 euros per megawatt of energy from 2020 to 2022.
  • The draft law would subsidise for phasing-out coal-fired power generation, and the government foresees an annual decline of 25 per cent in the compensation.
  • The government also anticipates no compensation beyond 2026.
  • The draft law would be discussed at the cabinet today.
