The ACCC recommends letting the NSW Minerals Council & ten coal producers to jointly discuss the terms and conditions, including price, of entrance to the Port of Newcastle for the export of coal & other minerals.
Other mining businesses would also able to join the discussion with Port of Newcastle Operations (PNO) going forward. Since Dec 2019, Port of Newcastle Operations is under negotiation with coal producers over a suggested ten years deal for admission to the port.
The NSW Minerals Council & coal companies would together discuss terms and conditions of this deal with PNO.
The ACCC has permitted coal producers to start joint discussions with PNO in an interim authorisation given on 2 April 2020 and now it recommends these arrangements for ten years.
