Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans has backed Josh Schuster to overcome his injury troubles, as the powerful five-eighth misses out on a head-to-head battle with the man he was earmarked to replace in Kieran Foran.
Schuster has only played back-to-back games once this season and will sit out Saturday's home match with Gold Coast due to a recurring quad issue.
It is the latest in a string of setbacks for the Sea Eagles, who have lost centre Brad Parker to a knee injury and are taking a wait-and-see approach with Tom Trbojevic.
The fullback has been named to play against the Titans at Brookvale Oval this weekend after pulling up with a groin issue during Manly's gritty win over Wests Tigers on Sunday.
Manly have learned to live without Trbojevic in recent seasons but Schuster's absence will be frustrating given his emergence as Foran's successor.
Schuster's move to the halves spelled the end of Foran's second stint at Manly and delivered him to Gold Coast.
"We know how good (Schuster) is when he's out there, he's a fantastic player," Cherry-Evans said.
"Not having any continuity has been hard for the team, let alone him who actually has to go through it.
"It's never a fun time when you're in and out of first grade through injury.
"It's not going to be easy for him to get back into first grade, because he's been quite inconsistent and coming in and out.
"There's work to be done there, obviously, but I hope he knows he's got a lot of support around here."
Manly have the chance to win a third-straight game as they face a Titans side who have shown glimpses of maturity with Foran steering the ship.
Cherry-Evans said the reunion with Foran would be bittersweet given how close he and the battle-hardened Kiwi international are.
"We would have loved to finish our careers together, we make no apologies about that," Cherry-Evans said.
"We loved our time together as mates and also out on the footy field, we feel like we built a really good connection.
"He's so competitive and I know he's going to be looking at our game and finding ways to pick us apart this weekend."
