The S&P 500 Index Accelerated in Monday’s Trading Session, led by Bets of Central Banks Aggressive Stimulus Measures

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 45.64 points or 1.54% higher at 2,999.86, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index accelerated by 559.73 points or 2.20% higher at 25,969.09, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 8,700.55, up by 133.19 points or 1.55% against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 2:55 PM ET).

US News: On 2nd March 2020, all major US indices traded in green zone, amid signs of slowdown in infections in China. To mitigate the impact of coronavirus on economic growth, investors are hopeful with increasing bets on major central banks to provide compelling stimulus measures in near term. Rebound in the broader sector was supported by rally in the tech stocks, mainly the Apple stocks which expanded by around 6 per cent, post Oppenheimer upgraded its rating to outperform. Chip stocks were also in the spotlight and traded in green territory after a massive sell off last week. Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) and Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) shares surged in Monday’s trading session.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Xcel Energy Inc, Xerox Holdings Corp, and Willis Towers Watson Plc are top gainers and increased by 1.51%, 0.96% and 0.69% respectively.

Worst Performers*: QORVO INC, HUNTINGTON BANCSHARES INC, and FOX CORP are the top three laggards and decreased by 1.61%, 1.14% and 1.02% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Zosana Pharma Corp, Zynex Inc, and Zscaler Inc are top gainers and increased by 19.34%, 1.38% and 1.02% respectively.

Worst Performers*: DIAMONDBACK ENERGY INC, SABRE CORP, and QUANTERIX CORP are the top three laggards and decreased by 1.62%, 1.36% and 0.57% respectively.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Walmart Inc, Microsoft Corp, and Merck & Co Inc are top gainers and increased by 2.55%, 1.93% and 1.69% respectively.

Worst Performers*: CISCO SYSTEMS INC, GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP INC, and WALT DISNEY CO are top laggards and decreased by 1.33%, 0.81% and 0.77% respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 74.28 points or 1.13% higher at 6,654.89, the FTSE 250 index snapped 29.22 points or 0.15% lower at 19,301.70, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 33.22 points or 0.90% higher at 3,706.83 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended up by 0.32 points or 0.09 per cent, at 375.97.

European News: In economic news, the Bank of England have revealed the mortgage approvals for the month January 2020. The number of mortgage transaction signed in the country during the month was 70,888, while for December 2019 it was 67,930. The number as per the central bank is the highest in four years and it confirms a pickup in consumer demand in 2020. In business news, the shares of Burberry Group Plc today tanked nearly 4.1 per cent as the company reported that it has shut nearly a third of its stores in China amidst the coronavirus scare. In other commodity news, Gold prices jumped in Monday’s trading session at around $1,600, after a massive unexpected fall out been observed last week.

London Stock Exchange

Top Performers*: KELLER GROUP PLC (KLR), LAMPRELL PLC (LAM) and MANCHESTER & LONDON INV TST PLC (MNL) are top gainers and increased by 9.40%, 9.38% and 9.09% respectively.

Worst Performers*: FINABLR PLC (FIN), RIVERSTONE ENERGY LIMITED (RSE) and TED BAKER PLC (TED) are the top three laggards and decreased by 14.65%, 14.42% and 13.83% respectively.

FTSE 100 Index

Top Gainers*: HIKMA PHARMACEUTICALS PLC (HIK), OCADO GROUP PLC (OCDO) and MORRISON(WM.)SUPERMARKETS PLC (MRW) traded in green zone and expanded by 6.57%, 6.11% and 5.14% respectively.

Top Laggards*: INTL CONSOLIDATED AIRLINES GROUP SA (IAG), EASYJET PLC (EZJ) and CARNIVAL PLC (CCL) traded in red territory in today’s session and dipped by 10.59%, 4.54% and 4.15% respectively.

Volume Leaders*: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (VOD) VODAFONE GROUP PLC; (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC shares were traded with decent volume in Monday’s trading session.

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were trading at 1.2771 and 0.8736, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was hovering at 1.095%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was trading at 0.415%, respectively.
