FTSE 100 Surged by 2.09% on Hopes of Additional Stimulus

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 51.39 points or 1.64 per cent higher at 3,181.40, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index accelerated by 373.67 points or 1.45 per cent higher at 26,201.03, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 10,459.81, up by 252.18 points or 2.47 per cent against the previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 11:40 AM ET).

US Market News: The Wallstreet bounced back on China-led recovery. Meanwhile, the US non-manufacturing activity index increased to 57.1 in June from 45.4 in May. Among the gaining stocks, Nio surged by close to 24.2 percent after the Company reported increased sales in June. Uber shares accelerated by around 4.3 percent after it announced the acquisition of food delivery start-up Postmates for $2.65 billion in an all-stock deal. Similarly, Berkshire was up by about 2.1 percent as it announced to buy Dominion Energy’s gas transmission assets. Among the decliners, Endologix shares nosedived by close to 69.6 percent as the medical device maker company filed for bankruptcy. Dominion Energy was down by close to 6.6 percent after the company agreed to sell gas transmission and storage assets to Berkshire Hathway Energy. Likewise, Duke Energy’s shed 2.3 percent after suspending the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Freeport-McMoRan Inc (FCX), Xilinx Inc (XLNX), and TechnipFMC Plc (FTI) stocks jumped by 7.13 percent, 6.28 percent and 5.77 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: Dominion Energy Inc (D), DXC Technology Co (DXC) and Cooper Companies Inc (COO) shares decreased by 5.25 per cent, 2.23 per cent and 1.59 per cent, respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Rosehill Resources Inc (ROSE), AYRO Inc (AYRO) and LM Funding America Inc (LMFA) shares expanded by 81.82 per cent, 74.62 per cent and 68.50 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: BELLUS Health Inc (BLU), Endologix Inc (ELGX) and Obseva SA (OBSV) shares plunged by 77.12 per cent, 64.94 per cent and 37.89 per cent, respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Energy (+3.68 per cent), Consumer Cyclicals (+2.67 per cent) and Financials (+2.57 per cent).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (WBA), Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS) and American Express Co (AXP) shares zoomed up by around 4.00 per cent, 3.72 per cent and 3.54 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performer*: Walmart Inc (WMT) shares plunged by 0.19 per cent.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 128.64 points or 2.09 per cent higher at 6,285.94, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 248.00 points or 1.43 per cent higher at 17,550.03, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 66.92 points or 1.96 per cent higher at 3,479.20, respectively. Another European index STOXX 600 ended up by 5.78 points or 1.58 per cent, at 371.21. Among other major European indices, DAX index closed the session at 12,733.45, up by 205.27 points or 1.64 per cent; CAC 40 index increased by 74.37 points or 1.49 per cent and ended the trading session at 5,081.51.

European News: London and European markets surged as hopes of additional stimulus bolstered risk appetite of investors. Meanwhile, the UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index from IHS Markit, rebounded from 28.9 in May to 55.3 in June. However, the new car registrations in Britain fell by 35 percent (annual) in June to merely 145,377 new cars. Among the gaining stocks, the household stocks – Persimmon, Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey soared over 4.8 percent, 7.0 percent, and 4.3 percent, respectively, as Rishi Sunak (UK Finance Minister) planned to exempt some homebuyers from paying any stamp duty by increasing the threshold limit. Also, Aviva rose close to 3.7 percent after the Company appointed Amanda Blanc as the new CEO (Chief Executive Officer). Similarly, Lloyds Banking gained over 2.7 percent as their CEO, Antonio Horta-Osorio decided to step down at the end of next year. Among the declining stock, Boohoo slumped over 11.1 percent after an investigation initiated against their supplier.

London Stock Exchange

Top Three Performers*: AMIGO HOLDINGS PLC (AMGO), CLIPPER LOGISTICS PLC (CLG) and HOLLYWOOD BOWL GROUP PLC (BOWL) accelerated significantly by 12.97 per cent, 11.48 per cent and 10.39 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: RESTURANT GROUP PLC (RTN), ENERGEAN PLC (ENOG) and MITCHELLS & BUTLERS PLC (MAB) plunged by 11.16 per cent, 8.87 per cent and 6.86 per cent, respectively.

Best Gainers*: BARRATT DEVELOPMENTS PLC (LON:BDEV), ROLLS-ROYCE HOLDINGS PLC (LON: RR.) & HSBC HOLDINGS PLC (LON:HSBA) leapt up by 7.36 per cent, 6.84 per cent and 5.72 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: SMITH (DS) PLC (LON:SMDS), ITV PLC (LON:ITV) and BURBERRY GROUP PLC (LON:BRBY) traded in the red zone and decreased by 3.12 per cent, 2.03 per cent and 0.80 per cent, respectively.

Shares traded with decent volume*: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (HSBA) HSBC HOLDINGS PLC; (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC.

Top Sectors traded in the positive zone*: Financials (+3.33 per cent), Energy (+2.73 per cent), and Consumer Cyclicals (+2.21 per cent).

Crude Oil Future Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price was hovering at $40.59 per barrel & Brent future crude oil (future) price was trading at $43.05 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.2498 and 0.9052, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield was tilting at 0.689 per cent, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.204 per cent, respectively.
