Innovative chemical injection unit set to revolutionize carbon capture and storage by eliminating corrosive impurities, reducing costs, and accelerating global deployment

LONDON, UK, MARCH 19, 2025 — Pace CCS, the global leader in carbon capture and storage (CCS) design, today announced a landmark collaboration with Foxconn, the world-renowned technology manufacturer, and TEWE (Taiwan East West Enterprises (CHEMA) Ltd.), a nearly century-old sales and service provider to Taiwan’s industrial sector. Together, the three industry leaders are developing a first-of-its-kind chemical injection unit designed to address the most pressing challenge in CCS: the removal of key impurities from CO2 streams that can cause corrosion in CCS networks.

The new solution targets impurities that, if left untreated, can trigger chemical reactions leading to the formation of water, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. These byproducts can cause severe corrosion in CCS infrastructure. By eliminating these impurities, the collaboration aims to relax stringent specifications for CCS networks, significantly reducing costs, simplifying operations, and protecting infrastructure from corrosion.

A Game-Changer for CCS and Climate Change

Carbon capture and storage is widely recognized as a critical technology in the fight against climate change, enabling industries to capture CO2 emissions before they enter the atmosphere and store them safely underground. However, the corrosion issue is a major barrier to the widespread adoption of CCS.

“This is the solution the CCS industry has been waiting for,” said Matthew Healey, Pace CCS Managing Director. “By turning a major technical challenge into a simple operational expense, we’re not only making CCS more viable but also accelerating its deployment globally. This is what the industry needs.”

The new chemical injection unit leverages Foxconn’s expertise in precision manufacturing and semiconductor supply chains, combined with Pace CCS’s deep knowledge of CCS design and TEWE’s nearly 70 years of experience in industrial sales and service. This unique collaboration takes technical knowledge from the semi-conductor industry and applies it to CCS, delivering a solution that is both highly effective and scalable.

Global Impact and Future Applications

The solution has broad applicability for CCS industrial hubs set to launch across Europe, Asia, Australasia, and North America this decade. By addressing the corrosion issue, the collaboration aims to make CCS more accessible and affordable, helping industries worldwide meet their decarbonization goals.

“Hon Hai Foxconn is proud to bring our supply chain and expertise to the energy transition and carbon reduction,” said Ron R. T. Horng, Hon Hai Foxconn’s Chief Environment Officer and Chairman of Green Facility Committee in Semi®, China, “This collaboration is a testament to how cross-industry partnerships can develop the leading edge technology and drive meaningful progress in the fight against climate change.”

TEWE, with its long-standing reputation for reliability and service, will play a key role in ensuring the solution meets the needs of industrial clients. Said Nancy Chen, TEWE’s General Manager, “For nearly 70 years, TEWE has been committed to supporting Taiwan’s industrial growth, and this collaboration allows us to contribute to a global solution that will benefit industries far beyond our borders.”

A Long-Term Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The partnership between Pace CCS, Foxconn, and TEWE represents a long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability. By combining their respective strengths, the three companies are poised to set a new standard for CCS technology, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
