Ocean Beach and AUT Partners to turn Southland site into a Centre for Aquaculture, Creating Thousands of Jobs

Owners of the former Ocean Beach freezing works have signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on a vision to turn its Southland site into a centre of excellence for aquaculture education, research and development.

It is believed that it would sustainably grow export earnings and generate high-skilled jobs and opportunities.

Furthermore, this collaboration covers education, funding applications, staff and student exchange programmes, research project, internships, post-doctoral research fellowships, and development of other species such as seaweed, oysters, and other forms of macro and micro algae.
