New Zealand's Population Exceeds 5 million

As per the Stats NZ report, the country's resident population reached 5 million in March 2020.

Population insights senior manager Brooke Theyers said, This is significant even for the country, and it is also fastest million in our history as it took around 17 years to reach this mark after reaching 4 million in 2003.

Most likely the mark was reached by a migrant arriving by plane.

The estimate of the resident population is somewhere around 5,002,100 on 31 March 2020. Stats NZ had predicted that the five million-mark would be reached in 2020.
