New Index Reveals Activity Decline in April, May

Treasury, Stats NZ, and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand have constructed the New Zealand Activity Index (NZAC) to provide a more detailed and timelier sign of improvements in the NZ economy.

The first edition of the index has revealed that the activity in April 2020 was down by 19 per cent as compared to pcp. In May 2020, activity improved but remained 6.5 per cent down as compared to May 2019.

The May rebound was due to sharp improvement in the electronic card spending and traffic movements.
