New Freight Hub Unveiled for North Island

To deal with growing freight volumes in the lower North Island, Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones has announced a local fright hub for the island. It shall be built just northeast of Palmerston North.

To buy land and design the planned intermodal freight hub, the government is investing NZD 40 million through the Provincial Growth Fund.

Mr Shane Jones said, KiwiRail has viewed a range of possible sites around Palmerston North, analysing various factors. The best option seems the area between the airport and Bunnythorpe.
