Commission's Warning for Hong Kong Based Electronics Retailer

The Commerce Commission issued warning to Becextech, an online electronics retailer on the grounds of Fair Trading Act breach. The warning follows an investigation of the electronic company. Becextech sells electronic goods like computers, tablets, mobile phones, through their online retail shop.

The allegations by the commission are:

  • Becextech didn't disclose that some of the phones were refurbished.
  • It sells an extended warranty without disclosing mandatory information.
  • Offer unreasonable discounts on their product.

As per Commission Chair Anna Rawlings, there is an act to protect consumers from misleading ads about product's features and previous use. To carry out business in NZ, the company must comply with the Fair Trading Act.
