Stats NZ has announced that newly released data from the 2018 Census suggest that the Christchurch central business district (CBD) is recovering from 2010/2011 earthquakes. Now, CBD has an additional 11,000 workers than at the time of the 2013 Census.

It was an increase of 77 per cent when compared with Auckland and Wellington CBDs, that increased by 37.2 per cent and 1.7 per cent respectively. At the time of the 2018 Census, Auckland's CBD workforce was the biggest with almost 100,000 people.
