- South Australia records 25 new COVID-19 cases, yesterday’s total revised up.
- Several facilities visited by infected are locked down.
South Australian Health department has revised the state's daily number of new COVID-19 cases to 25. It is the highest number of daily cases recorded since April 2020.
At present the cases have peaked even after the state reaching a 91% vaccination rate for first COVD-19 dose and an 84% for the second.
Yesterday, the government officials have identified a number of aged care homes visited by one of the COVID-positive healthcare workers. Due to this, several facilities have been locked down. State has also implemented infection control and put testing measures in place.
SA Premier Steven Marshall in response assured high level of testing being underway at affected sites, even after not finding any evidence of further transmission. However, he still believes that SA will continue to have more cases although the directed quarantine number will fall.
Even after infections surging across the state, the government has reduced the international arrival quarantine to seven days. The state calls it a relief for travelers coming in for Christmas. The notable increase in case numbers only means more testing for those travelling for pre-departure and after departure. The testing is to remain intact for some time.
Bottom line
Amidst rising number of COVID-19 cases the SA government is more reliant on testing and tracing rather than vaccine. It is also vigilant of the Omicron threat to the state.
